Depth of field is on be default in karma - beware (so is motion
blur).
If you want DOF aov, you can select them under AOV utilities (I
used depth in my example). Be sure to adjust your far clipping
plane in your camera (I like to move it until my geo disappears
and then move it back to a few units beyond - in the example file
50 worked well for example.
In Karma turn off dof default and turn on the aov as pictured
below

Old Cops had a dof node to test the values. I have two rendered images here - one mantra, one karma, if you want to see the effects in the img network in the example file. Copernicus does not have a handy way of applying dof and you would likely use nuke for these purposes.
For old cops, I have used a rename for the depth channel as dof
relies on that to interpret to a mask in the defocus node
(remember to see mask to M only in the defocus node). For
